Getting ready for Surgery
Once you arrive at Posada Ambulatory Surgery Center, our primary concerns are your care and comfort. We will take some initial tests, such as your temperature and blood pressure, and an anesthesiologist will evaluate you. And of course, you will have the chance to ask questions.
A family member or friend can stay with you until you are called for surgery. At that time, you will be escorted to the operating room. After your surgery is completed, we will let your companion know when he/she is able to visit you in the recovery room. If he/she leaves the center at any time, he/she must leave a phone number so we can call when you are ready to be discharged.
You will receive a document called “Patient Instructions” that details such information as when to arrive at the surgery center and what tests you will need prior to surgery. You will be asked to sign this document to confirm you have received the information and understand it completely.
Before you have your surgery, please take note of these important issues:
- Do not eat or drink anything after midnight prior to surgery.
- Please ask your doctor about your medications, regarding whether to take them the morning of surgery. If so instructed, please take the medication with a sip of water only, unless your doctor gives you different instructions.
- If you notice any change in your health, such as signs of a cold, please contact your doctor and Posada Ambulatory Surgery Center at (805) 591-3344 as soon as possible.
- If for some reason you are unable to keep your appointment, please call the center as soon as possible.
